I am a textile artist focusing on embroidery and hand-dying fabrics. Through these techniques, both intricate and intuitive, I explore the textures of nature which I compose into stories; a walk through the woods, an Icelandic folk tale, a geological event, a poem. I focus on artisan practices as working with my hands is incredibly important to my practice; both the painting on of dyes and the ability to mimic my drawings through my stitch are what allow me to explore and change my ideas as I go. Research is a large part of my practice as well as I am interested in both fine art and fashion research, as well as scientific or historical depending on my inspiration. This part of my process is well planned out, which allows the act of making to be spontaneous and unexpected. At the end, I play with the context of the works’ presentation—on a wall or on a body—to test the boundaries between fashion and art.
